Near the Northgate Dome in the north of Johannesburg, is a pristine 55ha park with rolling walks around a dam and indigenous bushveld. This picturesque park is a delightful surprise and a secret treasure about which many Johannesburgers are unaware.

Anticipating residential growth in the area and showing great foresight, the old Randburg municipality established the park in 1972. It is filled with unspoiled indigenous bushveld and is a breath of fresh air in a region carpeted with townhouses and cluster developments.

Take a field identification guidebook and spend some leisurely time exploring this natural area with its original grasses and trees. There is a footpath to a dam with resident water fowl. At the koppie an ancient iron smelting area reminds us that Johannesburg is enveloped by history.

The park is completely fenced with a guard at the gate. There is an entrance fee.

Getting there: Off Malibongwe Drive to Olievenhout Avenue, Maple Road to the entrance.

Facilities/features/events: Filming commercials, small corporate events, weddings, conferences and photography.
