Joubert Park is the city's oldest park, granted by the Volksraad in 1887. It is named after the town's first mining commissioner sent to investigate the claims of gold rush fortune seekers.

Wolmarans, King George and Twist streets border the park and it provides flatland residents with a quiet and tranquil place. It is one the busiest and most vibrant parks in the city centre, with about 20 000 people using it each month. Joubert Park is also home to the Johannesburg Art Gallery and the Conservancy.

It offers insights into inner city life, has a lovely fountain and large-scale chessboards, and maintains some the city's innovative environmental developments on its grounds. It can handle groups of 500 or more people, and is good for photography, filming commercials and small corporate events.

Facilities/features/events: Small concerts, photography, exhibitions and photography.

Getting there: The park is in the city centre and can be approached from a number of directions.
