Zoo fans adopting new South and Central American animals can now book a pre-opening tour of the long-awaited Amazon Exhibition enclosure.

SOUTH and Central America are home to animals every bit as exciting as those roaming the African continent; its monkeys, spiders, snakes and fish, among others, are uniquely adapted to its wide-ranging climate.

Now the Johannesburg Zoo welcomes an impressive selection of South and Central American fauna to its soon-to-be opened Amazon Exhibition, which also celebrates the Mayan people, who populated the area in the 6thC AD.

Animal lovers are invited to adopt some of the animals to be housed in the new enclosure, and the Zoo is sweetening the deal with a sneak-preview tour of the Temple.

Animals up for adoption include the comically whiskered Emperor Tamarin; the sinuous Yellow Anaconda, and the fearsome Gila Monster.

Adoption costs R550 per animal and you receive:

  • A personalised adoption certificate;
  • Two free entrance vouchers and paid parking;
  • A photograph of your adopted animal;
  • Species information; and
  • A cap.

To attend the sneak-preview tours, choose your adoptive animal from the list below, then call the Zoo on 011 646 2000 extention 213 or email to book your adoption and a tour date.
