Site_Specific's second Jozi Land Art Spring Event is a must for lovers of art and nature.

Art meets environment in land art
Art meets environment in land art

The event, taking place at the Botanical Gardens in Emmarentia on the weekend of 31 October to 2 November, will give Joburg residents the chance to see the artistic side of nature and natural materials. Land art is a movement in which the landscape/nature and the work of art are inextricably linked.

A number of artists have been invited to interact with the natural landscape in the gardens and will begin constructing their land art works from Friday, 31 October.

Visitors will be able to watch the artists working and to see the final works on Sunday, when they are invited to bring picnic lunches and to attend the official opening at 12 midday by Mohammed Valli Moosa, a former minister of environmental affairs and president of the World Conservation Union.

The artists will be working in and around the uncultivated area where the Westdene Spruit runs into the Emmarentia Dam and where there are natural pathways, vleis, wooded areas and meadows. This is best accessed via the parking lot on Louw Geldenhuys Street.
