More and more Johannesburg residents are getting down to work thanks to Jozi@Work, a City of Joburg programme that tackles unemployment, poverty and inequality by empowering community cooperatives and enterprises.

Jozi@Work is enabling and empowering both existing and new entrepreneurs
Jozi@Work is enabling and empowering both existing and new entrepreneurs, who in turn are drawing on the pool of unemployed and underemployed people in Johannesburg.

And Joburg City Parks and Zoo is playing an important role, as one of the key City agencies responsible for offering Jozi@Work opportunities to registered township small businesses and co-operatives.

At the most recent Jozi@Work forum, held at the Lenasia Civic Centre in the first week of February, two of the five work packages on offer came from City Parks, for jobs including weed removal, raking, picking up litter, sweeping, edging and grass cutting, repairs and removal of rubble, and maintenance of roads.

The two packages were worth a combined R142 500 - more than half the R220 000 total of the five packages on offer that day.
