Wetlands Day 2017

World Wetland Day (WWD) is celebrated globally on 2 February to highlight the importance of wetlands. Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo will be marking the day on Wednesday 15 February at Alberts Farm in Region B. The purpose of the event is to raise awareness on the importance of wetlands and the role they play in contributing to water and food security as they represent areas of considerable ecological and conservation importance.

Learners and community members will be given an opportunity to explore the science behind wetlands through various activities, including water testing experiments, an interactive educational workshop, cleaning of a wetland, visiting various exhibition stalls and eradicating alien invasive plant species.

Our stakeholders for this event are Sci-Enza, Rand Water, Delta Environmental Centre, Joburg Water and Environmental and Infrastructure Service Management Department (EISD).
