The Johannesburg Zoo is excited to announce the arrival of three lion cubs.

lioncubs1THE adorable little pounces were born on 12 April 2014 at a private game farm in Thabazimbi. They arrived at the zoo on 10 July 2014 and were cared for in quarantine by vet staff. Yesterday they took their first steps into their new enclosure.

Letaba the male white lion and his sisters Sabi and Jubba nervously checked out their new home staying close to the hospital nurses. Letaba the bravest of the three eventually led the way around the enclosure, discovering the toys and play equipment built by the BeMad club.

The triplets can be found at the AngloGold Lion Enclosure. We have seven adult lions that have exceeded their life expectancy in the wild and have not breed in the last 5 years. The zoo acquired the hand reared cubs to continue the species at the zoo.
