Region F is next in line as Joburg City Parks and Zoo joins with community members in "Mega Blitzing" Joburg's worst affected public spaces.

City Parks, communities step up Mega Blitz campaign

JOHANNESBURG City Parks and Zoo, together with other departments and agencies, will be partnering with communities on Wednesday, 19 November in the City's third Mega Blitz clean-up in the space of two weeks.

The Mega Blitz programme enlists the participation of local communities in tackling service delivery issues - such as grass cutting, tree trimming, rubbish removal, storm water drain repairs and man hole cover replacements - in targeted areas.

On 8 November it was the turn of the southern suburbs as the clean-up team, this time including the South of Joburg Business and Tourism organisation, spruced up Kliprivier Road between Rifle Range and Turf Club Street in Turffontein.

This was followed on 10 November by a sweep through parts of Region C in the City's North West, with JCPZ Managing Director Bulumko Nelana among those who donned overalls and gloves and joined in the cleaning-up operation.

On 19 November, it will be Region F's turn to be "Mega Blitzed", with the focus falling on Rosettenville, Kenilworth and Turffontein, the region's worst affected areas as identified in a pre-Blitz survey.

Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo will be joined on the day by the region's Ward Councillor along with local members of the City's Community Workers Programme.

And as with the previous Blitzes, the work will involve not only physical clearing up, but will also provide residents with environmental health education and encourage them to refrain from littering and dumping waste illegally.
